Solving Two Step Equations

Two step equations means that we have the variable on one side, and we need to do two things to get the variable by itself.

Example:

2x+3=14

When we have an equation like this, we need to get rid of the stuff on the same side as x.  In order to get rid of the stuff on the same side as x, we need to do the opposite of what is happening to the x.

We will do the add and subtract stuff first.  Then we will do the multiply and divide stuff.  So for this problem, first we will subtract 3 from both sides, then we will divide both sides by 2.

Example:

x/2+4=16

For this equation, we need to subtract the four from both sides first.  Then we need to multiply both sides by four.
